These honey garlic wings in air fryer are lip smackingly sweet, salty and tasty. These are a favourite appetiser at get togethers and for game nights.

Crispy chicken wings are irresistible. There is something about their sweet, salty and smoky taste that gets our tastebuds tingling.

My younger son just loves wings. I hated deep frying them due to the mess and also the calories.

Now I can do the wings quicker in my air fryer and they turn out so crispy, not to mention lower in fat compared to deep fried ones.

I make the honey garlic sauce on the stove top and then brush/toss the wings with the sauce while serving them.

You can try my favorite garlic parmesan wings in air fryer, frozen wings in air fryer, Buffalo wings in air fryer and air fryer crispy lemon pepper wings.

Why Make Chicken Wings in Air fryer

    1. Healthier: As compared to deep frying, you don’t use any additional oil in air frying.

    2. Crispier: Air fryers cook with high heat, which makes the wings crisp up nicely while leaving them succulent inside as compared to baking.

    3. Faster: Wings cook up way faster than baking.

    4. Less messy: Compared to deep frying, air fryer chicken wings are less messy. There is no hot oil to tackle either.

    Variations

    1. Spicy: Make these wings spicier by using a hot sauce while making its sauce.

    2. Herbs: Add finely chopped herbs like parsley or thyme for a freshness to the sauce.

    3. Smoky: For a smoky flavour, add BBQ sauce to your honey garlic sauce.

    4. Teriyaki sauce: Use teriyaki sauce in place of soy sauce for a different Asian twist.

    5. Cajun or dry rub: You may try this dry rub chicken wings recipe for a less fancy but very delicious chicken wings.

    Serving suggestions

    1. Perfect appetisers for parties: Serve them with other appetisers for game day or other parties. They go so well with sweet potato fries, chicken bites, fried pickles, hasselback potatoes.

    2. Serve with dip: Wings go very well with dips like ranch, hot sauce, chipotle mayo etc.

    3. As a side: Serve them with salad, baby potatoes and a chicken main.

    4. As a main: Serve with a salad or sautéed vegetables with rice or noodles.

    5. With drinks: These wings are a favourite of my husband’s with beer.

    Tips

    1. Dry chicken wings well or they will not turn out crispy.

    2. There is no need to use baking powder or flour to make the wings crispy.

    3. Don’t overcrowd air fryer basket otherwise the wings will not turn out crispy.

    4. Honey garlic sauce can be turned into a glaze by heating it more. If you want a very thick sauce, some cornflour dissolved in water can be used in the sauce.

    5. These honey garlic wings air fryer can be stored in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

    FAQs

    1. What can I use in place of honey?

What can I use in place of honey?

    2. Can I make a larger batch for the recipe?

Yes, you can double or triple the recipe.

    3. Why are my chicken wings not crispy?

Make sure that your chicken wings are very dry when you place them in the air fryer. This helps in crisping up the wings well.

    Instructions

Take chicken wings and cut them into drummettes and wingettes. You can leave them whole if you so like.

Dry them very well with kitchen towels or paper towels.

They must be perfectly dry so that they crisp up well when air fried.

Now apply salt and pepper on the wings.

Preheat air fryer at 180C or 360F for 5 minutes.

Place chicken wings in the air fryer basket in one layer ensuring that there is no overlap.

Chicken wings rubbed with salt and pepper in air fryer basket.

Air fry at 180C or 360F for 20 minutes till the wings get crispy and slightly browned.

You may flip them halfway during air frying.

Combine together honey, sesame oil and soy sauce along with minced garlic, cayenne and pepper.

I did not need additional salt as the soy sauce was already salty.

Heat this sauce in a pan till it thickens a bit. Keep it warm or make it just before the chicken wings get done.

This is because when the sauce becomes cold, it does not flow easily.

Once the wings are crispy and done, brush or toss them in the honey garlic sauce. You can sprinkle them with sesame seeds.

Serve them immediately along with a dip of choice. Enjoy your honey garlic chicken wings.
