Air fryer Hasselback Potatoes are delightful side for all potato lovers. Brushed with a tasty seasoning, these potatoes are brimming with flavour and are absolutely addictive.

Potatoes are soul food. I love them in all form and especially love having them in air fryer, as the excessive oil due to deep frying can be cut out.

From Accordion potatoes to breakfast potatoes, French fries to baked potato, smashed potato to roasted baby potatoes, potatoes in air fryer are a winner.

These Hasselback potatoes may look fancy but are very easy to make and delicious.

Tips to Cut Potatoes for Hasseback Potatoes

You can use both baby potatoes or regular potatoes for making these. While cutting the potato, use a sharp knife and cut through the potato not slicing all the way through. This way your potato stays attached at the base.

I normally keep two chopsticks on the side and then keep making thin slices all the way down. The chopsticks stop the potato from being accidentally cut all the way through.

It’s pretty simple. You can watch the video for a better understanding.

    Variations:

    1. In case you wish to make a zero oil and butter recipe, just dissolve your spices in a mix of lemon juice and water/broth. Brush with this and air fry.
    2. To make your potatoes more indulgent, you can top with some grated cheese after air frying or can even use mayo or melted cheese on top.
    3. You can also use some chopped onion and green chillies as garnish after air frying to add crunch and flavour.
    4. In case you want more spice, feel free to add more spices, even rubs work well in this recipe. You can top with Indian chaat masala for a spicy kick and serve.

    Tips and Tricks:

    1. You can use any firm potatoes that you like. Yukon gold works well and so does russet. I like the regular brown skin ones as well.
    2. I cook the potatoes to parboil after slicing them in my microwave for about 5 minutes. That really cuts down on the cooking time in the air fryer. But you can do them from raw too.
    3. You can use any chopped herbs that you like either while brushing the potatoes or to garnish like chopped parsley, cilantro or thyme.
    4. A combination of butter and olive oil gives them a delicious buttery flavour. Just extra virgin olive oil also tastes delicious.
    5. Make sure that you brush in each slice to ensure that the entire potato soaks in the seasoning.
    6. The larger your potatoes, the more time they will take to air fry.

    Chopped cilantro for garnishing (optional)

    Wash and dry each potato.

I have used 4 medium potatoes here that are slightly more than 1 lb. In weight.

Keeping each potato between two chopsticks, slice using a sharp knife such that the bottom stays intact.

You can make the slices as thin or thick as you like.

One potato cut into thin slices with the bottom intact placed between two parallel chopstickes on a grey chopping board. Three other potatoes are visible.

Now microwave the potato for 4-5 minutes to cook it slightly.

This reduces the air frying time. You can choose to air fry completely raw potato as well.

Take together butter and olive oil. Add salt, pepper, paprika and minced garlic to it and mix well.

Brush your sliced potatoes with this mixture ensuring that every slice is coated well.

Some of it will slide down and that’s fine. You can reuse that.

    Air frying Instructions

Preheat air fryer at 360F or 180C for 5 minutes.

Place the potatoes using tongs in air fryer basket.

Four hasselback potatoes brushed with seasoning being put into air fryer basket for air frying.

Air fry for 10-15 minutes at 360F or 180C till your potatoes are nice and done.

You can use a knife to poke and see if the potato seems done.

Brush once more with the spiced butter mix when taken out to enhance the taste of the seasonings.

Garnish with chopped parsley or cilantro leaves (optional) and serve hot with a dip of choice.
