Ingredients
To make these banana donut holes, you’ll need just a handful of simple ingredients:
Bananas: You need 1 ripe banana that gives you half cup banana puree. If your banana is smaller, you can use more. Also over ripe bananas are best for this recipe.
Self rising flour: You need ¾ cup of this. If you only have all-purpose flour, add 11/4 tsp. Baking powder to one cup all-purpose flour and 1pinch salt and use.
Optionals
Cinnamon sugar: I take about 2 tbsp. sugar with ½ tsp. Powdered cinnamon to roll the donut holes in. Don’t worry, the donut holes only pick up about half the sugar used. You can also use sugar substitutes like stevia or monk fruit to lower the calories.
Coconut oil or vegan butter: This is to provide a nice sheen to the donut holes and also to help adhere the sugar.
Instructions
The recipe is super easy. Just measure out your self rising or self raising flour. Take 1 ripe banana, overripe works well here. Peel and mash with a fork. You need ½ cup banana puree.
Add that to self raising flour and mix well with a spoon. It becomes a crumbly mix that becomes a sticky dough. Knead it a bit.
It will be very sticky. Put some oil in your palms and form small balls and keep aside. I could make about 10 donut holes.
Preheat air fryer at 360F or 180C for 5 minutes. I used a silicone mat. You can use perforated parchment paper as well. Place your banana donut balls on the mat or paper and leave enough space as they will expand. Brush with oil or vegan butter.
Air fry at 360F or 180C for about 7-8 minutes till your banana donut holes are golden brown and cooked through.
Meanwhile take powdered sugar with some powdered cinnamon and roll the donut holes after brushing them with oil or vegan butter.
That’s it, your delicious quick air fryer banana donut holes are ready to serve. Enjoy them with a cup of tea or coffee.
You can store them for upto 3 days in the refrigerator. Heat them before eating.
Expert Tips
1. Feel free to use add-ins like chopped nuts, chocolate chips etc. You can add vanilla extract to the batter if you want a vanilla flavour.
2. Don’t overmix. Just combine well. Overmixing can make these donut holes dense.
3. Use very ripe bananas here for the perfect sweetness and texture in the holes.
