These air fryer accordion potatoes are super crispy and delicious. They look fancy and are perfect for get togethers. Quick and easy to make in the air fryer.

From the tik Tok trend, these Accordion potatoes are super fun to make and eat. The trick is in cutting them correctly. After that, they just need a brushing of oil/butter with seasonings to sparkle.

My kids just loved them especially their lattice design.

You will also love hasselback potatoes in air fryer, breakfast potatoes, French fries, baked potato, smashed potato  and roasted baby potatoes.

What Do You Need to Make Air fryer Accordion Potatoes?

Potatoes: Use longer or oblong potatoes that are firm. Russet, Yukon Gold, Red potatoes all work well.

    Seasoning: Garlic powder, salt, cayenne

    Oil: I used olive oil

Tips for Making the Perfect Accordion Potatoes

    1. Use oblong or longish potatoes. Peel them. Snip off the edges. Then cut them into flat rectangles about ¾” thick.
    2. Keeping chopsticks on the sides make parallel straight cuts on one side close to each other. Flip the potato and make diagonal cuts on the other side with chopsticks on the sides to prevent them from cutting through.
    3. Now you will see that the potato slices open and curve like an accordion.
    4. Now immerse them in water for about 15-20 minutes. This prevents them from turning black and also takes excess starch out that helps in crisping them when cooking.
    5. Then you can thread them into a skewer and air fry them.
    6. I didn’t use skewers and air fried them after applying seasoned oil/vegan butter.
    7. I use the leftover potatoes by cutting into fries and air frying them separately. That way there is no wastage.

    Stepwise Pictures

Peel the potatoes and snip off the ends. Place is horizontally and slice off the curved parts on both sides to form a rectangle.

Cut each rectangle into two halves like a fillet horizontally. Don’t let these slices by very thick. About ½” thickness is fine.

    Potato cut into horizontal slices

Place two chopsticks parallel to each other on the width of the potatoes.

Now using a sharp knife score straight lines close to each other.

The chopsticks prevent you from cutting the potatoes all the way through.

    Potato slice kept between chopsticks.

Flip the potato side and this time score one-side diagonal lines close to each other.

Now when you pick up the potato slice, it bends and opens up like an accordion.

Immerse in cold water for 20 minutes to prevent them from darkening. Repeat for more potatoes.

You can use thin skewers to skewer the potato and open it out a bit. I just let them be this way.

Mix oil or vegan butter with the spices mentioned.

    Oil with seasonings.

Preheat air fryer at 180C or 360F for 5 minutes.

Brush the basket or use perforated parchment paper to line your basket.

Brush both sides of each accordion potato with spiced oil.

Place them in air fryer basket in one layer.

Air fry at 180C or 360F for 8 minutes.

Brush once more with spiced oil and air fry again at 200C or 390F for about 10 minutes.

Your potatoes will be cooked inside and crispy outside.

If you want them crispier then air fryer for 2 minutes more.

Remember the next batch will get done slightly faster.

Take out and serve air fryer accordion potatoes with a spicy chipotle mayo or dip of your choice.

They are so delicious. Don’t forget to pull them out to admire their fancy design. 🙂
