These delicious portobello mushrooms in air fryer are ready in under 15 minutes. They make for a fantastic side and can be used in burgers too.
Portobello Mushrooms are my favourite though I love so many varieties of mushroom.
These are large, meaty and so hearty when cooked.
They are loaded with the umami flavor, and we love having them often at home.
They are easy to prepare and taste fantastic, not to mention how healthy they are.
I have used a simple marinade here that is more brush and air fry type.
Do try this recipe, and you will make it over and over again.
Each portobello mushroom done in air fryer is so juicy and brimming with flavour.

Tips
1. Never wash portobello mushrooms under running water.
They will absorb a lot of water and will be very watery when cooked.
I used a damp paper towel to wipe it both sides.
2. You can choose to remove the stalks and only cook the caps.
I sometimes trim the stalk and use. Same applies to gills.
Some people scrape them out with a spoon. I leave them there and always have.
3. There is no need to marinate the mushrooms.
Just brush the marinade on both sides and air fryer right away.
4. After air frying, the mushrooms stay so meaty yet juicy.
It’s a delight to eat them.
5. You can vary the marinade as per taste. Use spice rubs or herbs as per choice.
Variations
This recipe is vegan or no dairy recipe.
If you eat dairy, you could use butter in place of olive oil for a more buttery flavour.
Storage
After air frying, you can store the mushrooms in the fridge for 1-2 days.
But they are best eaten fresh.
They get soggy if stored for long after air frying.
Reheat for 2-3 minutes in the air fryer before serving.
Definitely do not recommend freezing as they will get very mushy on thawing or reheating.
How to serve
You can have them as a vegetable side by slicing them. Serve with a dip of choice.
They are perfect in burgers as a meaty vegan substitute. So delicious too.
Have it in salads or wraps.
Ingredients
1. Portobello Mushrooms: Meaty and delicious, they are perfect for this recipe.
Marinade: I have used extra virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce and spices like pepper, cayenne, Italian seasoning, garlic powder and salt for a truly tasty marinade.
Method
Clean each portobello mushroom by using a damp cloth or paper napkin and wiping with it on both sides.
Set aside.
Mix together the marinade ingredients.
Add oil, soy sauce, vinegar along with the spices and mix well.
Using a brush apply the marinade on both sides of the portobello mushrooms.
Meanwhile, pre heat air fryer at 360F or 180C for 4 minutes.
Carefully place the mushrooms with their gills side facing up in the air fryer. I could fit four in mine.
Air fry for about 6 minutes till the mushrooms are cooked.
There is no need to flip them during the air frying time.
Since I had one portobello mushroom that was smaller than the other three.
I removed it after 5 minutes of air frying time as it was perfectly done.
The others were cooked for a minute more.
Carefully take them out in a plate and serve hot after garnishing with chopped cilantro or parsley.
You can also slice them and serve or use them in wraps or burgers.
This is a winner recipe and you would love to make it again.
