Frozen samosas in air fryer are a perfect snack. Serve them with chai or just as a snack. It is perfect for those times when you crave something quick and delicious in under 15 minutes.
Samosa is a favorite snack in my family. It has an outer flaky pastry with a delicious filling inside. The outer crust is typically made with flour.
The filling could be of veggies, potato, mince meat or even lentils with spices. It is typically triangular shaped.
In my childhood, we often had piping hot samosas served with evening tea bought from street shops.
My mum would also make them at home. I also make them from scratch. You can make these homemade samosas from scratch in the air fryer.
They are probably one of the most loved Indian snacks along with onion bhajiyas, vada pav and aloo Tikki, all of which I make in my air fryer now. 🙂
You may also like frozen fries air fryer, frozen hash browns, frozen wings in air fryer, frozen tater tots and frozen pizza rolls.
Ingredients
Frozen samosa: Just use frozen samosa from the frozen grocery section to make this dish. Any brand works.
Oil spray: this is optional. I do not use additional oil while air frying my frozen samosas. But some people like extra sheen that it provides.
Why Should You Air fry Frozen Samosas
Ease: It really is the easiest way to have a snack to serve in under 15 minutes.
Mess free: Heating up a big pot of oil is not something I do easily these days. Also the mess of oil splatter, and what to do with the batch of oil left over are reasons why I avoid deep frying.
Convenience: No need to thaw. Just pop into the air fryer and samosas are done in no time.
Serving suggestions
With ketchup or chutney: These are served piping hot with ketchup or green chutney in Indian homes.
Tea time snack: Samosas are a popular snack with chai. Serve them as a piping hot snack.
Samosa chaat: Chaat is tangy tasty street food in India that is very popular. Samosas are served with chole curry topped with green chutney, tamarind chutney, chopped onions, cilantro. It is really delicious.
Finger foods: Samosas could be served as finger foods on a party platter along with aloo Tikki, onion Bhajiyas, cabbage pakoda etc.
Variations
You can buy frozen samosas with different fillings. The most popular filling is mashed potato and green peas with spices.
You can also find lentil filling and minced meat filling. Choose as per your taste.
You can also get mini samosas that make for a smaller serve.
Samosas are normally vegetarian or vegan unless you choose one with a meat filling.
FAQs
You can air fry them for a couple of minutes more if they feel undercooked or are not crispy.
Any brand that is available in your local grocery store’s frozen section works. My son picks up Trader Joe’s or his local Kroger brand. I have also tested them on ITC and Amul brands.
Yes, you can flip them midway during cooking.
My frozen samosas do not stick to air fryer basket so I avoid using that. But, in case yours are sticking to the basket, you can definitely spray or line your air fryer basket with parchment paper.
Tips
1. If you are using mini samosas, then your air frying time will reduce. Do check the air frying time as per your air fryer model.
2. Preheating the air fryer is not essential. You can directly place frozen samosas and air fry. In this case, air frying time will increase.
3. Do not thaw the samosas, air fry them from frozen. This ensures that they stay crispy after air frying.
4. You may brush or spray the samosas with a little oil for a more shiny appearance. I avoid that because the frozen samosas already have enough oil, in my opinion.
5. You cannot refreeze these air fried samosas. But you can reheat the leftovers in your air fryer after storing in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer at 180C or 360F for 5 minutes.
Take frozen samosa from the freezer.
Place them in your air fryer basket such that they fit in one row. Do not over crowd or put one on top of another.
Close the air fryer basket.
Air fry for 10 minutes at 180C or 360F.
If they do not look done, you can air fry for 2 more minutes and check.
They will turn golden brown on the outside and will be heated through inside.
Your hot samosas are ready from frozen. Enjoy.
