Serving suggestions
I love to serve them as it is. You can also have them with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I also sometimes top them with some granola and slivered nuts and enjoy them.
Variations:
This recipe is already vegan and vegetarian.
It is also a no-oil recipe. It is refined sugar free as well. You can use maple syrup or honey in place of brown sugar.
Ingredients:
Pears: Choose delicious and ripe pears of any variety that you like. I used two pears about 1 lb. Weight.
Brown Sugar: I like how brown sugar gives a caramel kind of feel after cooking. It coats the pears nicely while retaining their juiciness within.
Ground Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a nice warming spice that lends a lovely touch to the flavour. You can also use some chilli flakes for a light hit.
Tips to Make the Best Air fryer Pears
1. Choose ripe pears that are firm.
2. You can use maple syrup or agave in place of brown sugar or honey (for vegetarians).
3. You can use some chilli flakes on top for a slight hint of heat.
4. Even a pinch of sea salt mixed in the brown sugar tastes well.
5. You can’t store these pears for long as they are best consumed fresh. Refrigerate the leftovers and consume within a day.
6. If you are feeling indulgent, you could pour some butter over the pears after they are cooked for a buttery flavour. Vegan butter can be used too.
Stepwise Pictures
Cut each pear into quarters or equal sized spears. Then remove the core.
I used a spoon to do it. Keep aside.
You can remove the peel if you like but I like to retain it.
Mix together ground cinnamon and brown sugar and apply generously all over the pear segments.
Using your hands ensure that you have coated each pear segment.
Air fryer Instructions
Preheat your air fryer at 180C or 360F for 5 minutes.
Lay the coated pear spears in the air fryer basket. To make cleanup easier, you can line the basket with parchment paper.
Air fry at 180C or 360F for about 8-10 minutes. You don’t need to shake or flip the pears.
The brown sugar on top bubbles and forms a nice soft caramel like coating on top. The pears get cooked well.
If your pears don’t look adequately browned, then you may bump the temperature to 200C or 390F and air fry for about 2 minutes more.
Take care not to cook the pears to a mush.
Baking Instructions
Preheat your oven at 400F or 200C. Lay the pears in the oven on a baking tray. Bake for about 15 minutes at 400F.
Carefully remove them using tongs and serve right away.
Have them as is. My kids just love it or you can have with some ice cream or granola. Enjoy.
