These air fryer bang bang shrimp are super crunchy outside and so succulent inside with a delicious sauce. Just the perfect main/appetizer perfect for weeknight dinners or parties.

I love the little punch in bang bang sauce which is also so creamy. I must admit that I just do a little dip to avoid the extra calories. 🙂

Shrimp is a favourite at my home. I cook it regularly in my air fryer. My teen son actually asks me to do that.

He says it tastes so much better without the extra oil. I am super chuffed.

You can try these lemon pepper garlic shrimp, air fryer Cajun shrimp and this cold shrimp appetizer.

These Air fryer Tempura Shrimp, Tandoori Shrimp and crispy coconut shrimp in air fryer are delish too.

Tips for Making the Perfect Air fryer Bang Bang Shrimp

    1. Choose good quality shrimp, fresh or frozen both work. If using frozen thaw before using.

    2. I use wholewheat flour, buttermilk and breadcrumbs for the perfect crispy shrimp.

    3. Always season your breadcrumbs for a good flavor.

    4. You can use storebought bang bang sauce and make your own. It is super easy.

    5. Serve it hot and crunchy. Or you can reheat for 1-2 minutes to restore the crunch.

Make sure in this case your shrimp in not done completely so that it does not get overcooked while reheating.

    6. I prefer to serve the sauce on the side to retain the crunch of the air fried shrimp.

You can drizzle on the top or even toss in the sauce and serve depending upon your preference.

    FAQs

    1. Why is it called Bang Bang shrimp?

It is called Bang Bang shrimp due to the delightful kick from the sauce which is creamy, spice with a hint of sweet.

    2. Can you make Bang Bang sauce at home?

Yes, you absolutely can and it is super easy to make. Mix together mayo, Thai sweet chili sauce and Sriracha sauce (or any hot sauce you like).

    3. Can you make Bang bang shrimp with frozen shrimp?

You cannot as the breading will not adhere to frozen shrimp. But you can bread the shrimp and freeze it to be air fried later.
