    Review of Hemp Seeds and Why You Should Be Using Them

    Since it is mango season and I am revelling in the goodness of mangoes, this is the perfect time to have mango lassi. This mango lassi is made with a twist. Its nutrition is enhanced by the addition of Ayurvedic Sativaa Hemp nubs. It’s easy to make: Just add 1 mango cut into pieces to 1 cup yoghurt. Add sugar to taste. Blend well. I also add finely chopped pieces of mango. Then sprinkle 1 tbsp. of hemp seeds per glass on top and consume.

    When Health Horizons approached me for a review of their products, I was intrigued. Hemp seeds are the new super foods that are packed with the goodness of plant-based protein that are 50%-70% higher than that of chia or flax seeds. They are rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids and low on carbs. These proteins are very easily digestible too. Hemp seeds are also rich in fiber and essential micronutrients. Thus they naturally keep you full for longer and provide you the perfect balance of protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. Hence they are a weight watchers delight.

    What are Hemp Seeds?

    Hemp is a variety of the cannabis plant (not the same as marijuana) which contains only trace amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinoids), the active ingredient in marijuana. They will not get you high. In fact, their consumption has enormous benefits.. Hemp seeds are grown all across the globe for their immense health benefits.

    You can sprinkle them on smoothies, salads or desserts or just munch on the seeds or nubs. They have a nice nutty taste. Use the protein powder in your drinks to fortify them with easily digestible plant protein.

    How are Hemp Products Used?

    The seeds of the hemp plant have brown hulls that are removed and what we get are the soft, nutty white seeds that one can cook and eat right away. We can also buy hemp oil or hemp protein powder. Hemp protein powder is high in plant protein and is perfect for vegans and vegetarians. Hemp oil has a low smoking point and it is best not to cook with it. You can use it as a salad dressing. Each form has the goodness of hemp seeds.
