Mug cakes are my new favourites to make in the air fryer. I could make two nice chocolate mug cakes in under 30 minutes. And they were yum!

Anything chocolate, I am game. But at the same time, I avoid making large cakes because it's just the three of us, and we don't want too many calories.

These mug cakes are perfect for those cravings with their small serves and use the ingredients we all have in our pantries. This is a vegan mug cake and so easy to make too.

Tasty mug cake in air fryer

You will also like: air fryer Oreos, peanut butter cookies in air fryer, homemade granola in air fryer and chocolate peanut butter made using Air fryer.

    Ingredients

Self-raising flour: 3 tbsp. are used per cup. You can use all purpose flour same quantity with ½ tsp. Baking powder and 1 pinch salt in case you don't have self raising flour.

Dry ingredients: I have used Hershey's unsweetened dark cocoa and regular sugar here.

Wet ingredients: Vanilla extract, almond milk and vegetable oil were used in the recipe.

Chocolate chips: for more chocolate indulgence vegan dark chocolate chips are used.

    Instructions

Assemble all the ingredients. Preheat air fryer at 170C or 340F for 5 minutes.

Take a nice oven safe ceramic or metal mug. Add in the dry ingredients - 3 tbsp. self-rising or raising flour with 1.5 tbsp. sugar and 1 tbsp. cocoa powder. Mix with a fork. Add sugar depending upon how sweet your chocolate chips are.

Add in 2 tbsp. vegetable oil and 3.5 tbsp. almond milk (or any other plant-based milk or dairy milk) along with ¼ tsp. Vanilla essence. Mix well till you have mixed the cake mix uniformly.

If sugar granules are not fully dissolved, it is fine. Now add 1 tbsp. dark chocolate chips and lightly mix with a fork.

That's it. I made two mug cakes together. You can store one in the fridge and have later as well. My cheat for a few days later. 🙂

Place them in air fryer basket and turn on the air fryer. You will take about 14-16 minutes at 170C or 340F. After 12 minutes, poke with a toothpick to check.

If it comes out wet or with crumbs, then increase the air frying time by 2 minutes and check again. The cake is cooked when the toothpick comes out clean and dry.

That's it, your chocolate mug cake in air fryer is done. Take out the mugs carefully using oven mitts. Then let them cool down enough for about 5-10 minutes.

Enjoy as it is or with nice cream.

    Expert Tips

    1. You can use any milk in this recipe. Any plant-based or regular milk works.

    2. Use any neutral tasting oil like vegetable oil, canola oil, sunflower oil etc.

    3. You can use chocolate chunks in place of chocolate chips. You could also use nuts of choice.

    4. Storage: This mug cake can be covered with a wrap and kept in a fridge for 3-4 days. Warm it in microwave or air fryer before serving. You can also freeze it for upto 3 months in a freezer safe jar. Thaw completely and warm before eating.
