Homemade bagels are delicious. When they emerge hot and smelling of warm bread, they are irresistible. They are super easy to make in small batches with this air fryer bagel recipe.

Needs basically two ingredients with toppings. I love the plain bagel, but you can customize it just as easily. Serve it with cream cheese. My son loves it sweet with cream cheese and maple syrup with chopped fruit.

Enjoy it savory or sweet as per your like.

You can also try air fryer breadcrumbs, air fryer banana bread, air fryer garlic bread, Air fryer chickpeas, Air fryer vegan falafel, Air fryer Broccoli, Honey roasted almonds and Air fryer baked potatoes.

    3 bagels on a plate.

    Ingredients

Self rising flour: This is the perfect base for quick bagels. You can use all-purpose flour as well. Check the notes.

Greek Yogurt: Helps in making the bagel fluffy. You can use Greek or plant-based yogurt.

Olive Oil: I use it to brush the bagels. Butter or vegan butter can be used too.

Toppings: I have used nigella seeds and sesame seeds here. Poppy seeds are good too. Everything Bagel seasoning is good too.

    Ingredients for making air fryer

    Instructions

This is a really easy recipe. Preheat the air fryer at 180C or 360F for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile take 1 cup self rising flour and add 1 cup Greek yogurt to it. Mix well to form a sticky dough.

Add a bit of flour if it is too sticky or just does not come together. Once the dough is smooth, divide it into equal portions. Do not overknead though.

I divided the dough into 4 parts. Then pull out each part to form a cylinder. Join the ends of the cylinder to form a bagel or donut shape. Do the same for the rest. Place them on parchment paper or silicone mat.

Brush them with olive oil or melted butter. Then sprinkle the toppings you like. Now place parchment paper or silicone mat in the air fryer basket and carefully place the bagels ensuring that there is enough space and they are not overlapping.

Place the basket back in the air fryer. Air fry at 180C or 360F for about 8-10 minutes till the bagels are cooked and golden brown. They come out easily and don’t stick to the parchment paper.

Let them cool a bit. Cut into half. Apply the toppings of choice and serve hot. Your delicious bagel are ready.

    Expert Tips

    1. If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own by mixing 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1 to 1 ¼ teaspoons of baking powder and ¼ teaspoon of salt. 1 cup is about 125 gm.  or 4.5 oz.

    2. You can use garlic, onion flakes, chilli flakes, raisins, cinnamon sugar, chocolate chips or any other toppings that you enjoy.

    3. You can make a bagel sandwich as well by cutting a bagel horizontally and adding toppings of your choice.

    4. Do not overknead or the bagels may turn out denser.

    5. Sweet bagels topped with peanut butter and jelly, jam or cream cheese and maple syrup or chocolate sauce are delicious too.

    6. Bagels can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days in airtight jar. Microwave or air fry before consuming.
