This lemongrass ginger tea has a lovely lemony ginger fragrance and flavor. It is lovely for mood uplift, anxiety and cooling the body.
Lemongrass tea, just the name evokes a citrusy, fresh feel, doesn’t it? I only recently started making it, and I have to say that I love it immensely.
It is included in the arsenal of my tea recipes, and I make it regularly.
It helps that I grow lemongrass in pots at home hence have a steady supply of it. Else it can easily be bought at a store.
While you can just make this tea by steeping ginger and lemongrass in hot water and drinking it with or without a sweetener, I love to make it as Indian lemongrass chai.
Sage tea and Spruce tea are interesting variations you can try.

I discovered lemon grass tea last year and I disliked it. But it grows on you if you keep trying at intervals. We make this at home mainly because my husband has benefited a lot from replacing the usual milk tea with lemongrass tea.
Soumya says
I cannot have milk in my tea or coffee, so I'm gonna skip the milk! I love lemongrass and its flavor is just amazing. I'd love to make the milkless version of it and try. I've heard it helps with sleep as well. An insomniac like me can do with it 🙂
Vidya Sury says
Very nice, Rachna. I prefer it without the milk, but now that I've read your recipe, I will try the milk version. I don't take sugar though. Now, to source the lemongrass. I do have lemongrass teabags. 🙂 I really enjoy my afternoon cup of tea in different flavors!
Anita says
I love the aroma of Lemon Grass.
Your recipe looks great, Rachna!
Have you tried using Lemon Grass while preparing rice? Appetizing 🙂
Rachna says
Thanks Anita. I haven't tried lemongrass for rice but I will surely try next time.
Shilpa Garg says
I have never had lemon grass tea with the real stalks and leaves. Have had lemon grass tea bags. Will look out for lemon grass in the super market next time.
Madhavi says
I also never tried lemongrass tea. I just got one stack to try this. Will this go along with elaichi and ginger tea Rachana? Or just lemongrass by itself?
Thanks
Madhavi
Rachna says
Lemongrass by itself is pretty good. You can add elaichi too if you like or even ginger. I generally only do lemongrass by itself.
ALLAN says
Hi Rachna, I have been using lemon grass for quite some time now but only the leaves.. does it benefit the same way as it would having not added a stalk to it?
Rachna says
Hi Allan, It is preferable to use both stalks and leaves for the health benefits. Sometimes I add lemongrass leaves just for a faint flavour and smell. 🙂
Garima Kaushik says
I had lemon grass chai sometime back but I could never get that flavour whenever I tried it. Now thanks to your recipe I think I will finally get it right. Can't wait to give it a try. Thanks!

Thanks for the recipe. In fact it was the sight of the heroine in the movie"Thappad" making lemon grass tea morning after morning, that made me plant a Lemongrass clump in my kitchen garden. Now I make lemon grass tea frequently, but referred to your recipe to read about its health benefits. I boil a mixture of water and milk and add lemongrass to it before boiling. Tea bags/ leaves are added when it comes to a boil. The rest of the ingredients are added after straining. Well, thanks again!
Rachna says
Thank you for sharing your interesting anecdote. I remember those scenes in the movie Thappad. I first planted lemongrass in a pot at my home because I just loved using lemongrass in my Thai cooking. It is so fragrant and delicious. Then using it in tea was the next step. 🙂
Priti Shah says
Thanks for sharing the recipe. I make this, and add grated fresh ginger and cardamom and these goes well with it too.
Rachna says
That sounds lovely, Priti.
