This instant pot popcorn is quick and easy to make. It is perfect for movie nights and as a snack.
While I made a lot of those microwave popcorn packs till I read their labels. So much salt and questionable oils and preservatives.
That is when I started popping the kernels myself to make my customised popcorn. So delicious, with much lower salt.
It also comes together in no time. Kids relish this homemade popcorn. You can try this sweet and salty popcorn too.

Tips for Making Perfect Instant Pot Popcorn
- Using fresh and good quality unpopped corn gives you nice popcorn.
- You can change the seasonings as per your like. Just salt or salt and pepper works equally well.
- You can also choose to add salt and seasonings after popping the corn.
- Oil is needed to coat the kernels to help them pop and also prevent them from burning.
- If you pop for too long then your popcorn may get burnt. Make sure that you only pop for about 3-4 minutes till you hear the popping reduce.
- If you don’t have a glass lid, you can use a regular lid and just rely on the popping sound to guide you.
- I used a glass lid from another cookware and it worked just fine.
- These must be had fresh. You cannot store popcorn or they lose their freshness.

Put Instant Pot in Saute mode and wait for it to be hot. Takes about 3 minutes.
Now add 3 tsp. vegetable oil like peanut oil or coconut oil to the pan. Wait for it to heat up.
Add ½ cup unpopped corn to the pot.
Also add salt, paprika, pepper and turmeric powder to the pot.
Stir so as to coat all the unpopped corn.
Cover pot with glass lid and cook on saute for about 3-4 minutes.
You will hear the corn popping vigorously which will progressively slow down.
When it has slowed down to about 2-3 seconds between each pop, turn off your instant pot and keep covered.
Corn will continue to pop. Once done open and serve hot.
I found that almost all the corn had popped.
It will also depend upon the quality of unpopped corn that you use.
Enjoy hot.
