Instructions

For Frozen Hash Brown Patties

  • Preheat air fryer at 200 C or 390 F for 4 minutes.
  • Lay the hash brown patties in one layer. I normally cook 5-6 in one batch but you can easily do 3-4 too.
  • Air fry at 200 C or 390 F for about 12-14 minutes till they are golden brown. You can air fry till 14 minutes for a nice brown appearance.
  • You can flip the patties once in the middle. Though I have cooked them without flipping and they turn out just as good.
  • Keep checking on them after 10 minutes to see how crisp they look. The time may vary a bit depending upon your air fryer as well as the size of the hash browns.
  • I have tested this recipe in my Philips Air fryer basket type. I can make 6 patties at one go. For my family of 4 I do 2 batches.

From Scratch Hash Brown Patties

  • Take 4 large russet potatoes. Peel and parboil them till cooked but not mushy. Grate them or mash them.
  • You can also use leftover mashed potatoes for this recipe. In which case adjust the seasonings as per taste.
  • Add 1 tsp. each of garlic powder, onion powder and pepper along with salt. Add chickpea flour to help form the patties well. They also help with the crisping.
  • Mix well and form potato patties. Brush with oil.
  • Preheat air fryer at 390F or 200C for 4 minutes.
  • Air fry at 390F or 200C for about 16-18 minutes till crispy and golden brown. Serve hot.
  • Take them out and serve them hot with ketchup or a dip for a satisfying snack or with air fryer soft boiled eggs and sautéed mushrooms along with sausages for a hearty breakfast. Enjoy!

Notes

1. You do not need to add any oil while cooking since frozen hash browns already have oil in them. I always check the nutrition label and pick a brand that use low oil. 2. You can air fry for a couple of minutes more in case you want them to be darker. 3. I can cook 6 patties at one go in my Philips basket type air fryer, but you can easily cook 3-4 patties at one time too. There wasn’t much of time difference when doing a smaller batch. Just a minute or two less works. 4. If you do not preheat your air fryer, then you will need more time for the first batch. 5. The recipe for from scratch hash brown patties is shared as well in the notes. 6. You can use leftover mashed potato for making potato patties too.
