Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Broccoli florets
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Wash and clean broccoli. Pull the florets apart or if needed cut them into similar sizes.
  • Use a steamer basket that fits in your Instant pot and place your broccoli florets inside it.
  • Put in 1 cup of water in the Instant pot. Place your steamer vessel on top of the trivet. Close the cover and set it for Pressure Cooking at 0 minutes or manual mode at zero minutes.
  • Let the Instant Pot come to pressure. It will then beep. Immediately release the pressure and open the instant pot.
  • Your perfectly steamed broccoli is ready to eat. Sprinkle salt and pepper and enjoy it as a healthy side.
  • Or use it further in sautéed veggies, soups, toss in a Chinese sauce or serve with noodles.
  • If you are using any other metal container inside Instant Pot then you will need to put the setting to 2 minutes of Pressure cooking.

Notes

1. Use fresh bright green broccoli florets. Cut them into large florets, wash and steam.
2. I have steamed broccoli in instant pot using both a steamer basket and a regular metal container. Regular metal container needs 2 minutes of pressure cooking time instead of 0 minutes with steamer. Rest of the recipe is same.
3. There is no need to apply any oil or spices. Just steam the broccoli as it is.
4. After Instant pot comes to pressure, manually release the pressure immediately to have perfectly steamed broccoli with a slight bite. I don’t like the broccoli to get very mushy and lose shape.
5. You can steamed frozen broccoli too.
How to Steam Frozen Broccoli in Instant Pot
I find it so much easier to use frozen broccoli especially when broccoli is not in season. It is also so much easier as it involves no washing, chopping and so on.
The recipe remains the same, and I have noticed that the pressure cooking time remains the same i.e 0 minutes.
